{"id":44,"date":"2007-12-04T13:19:37","date_gmt":"2007-12-04T17:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timelordz.com\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=44"},"modified":"2007-12-04T13:19:37","modified_gmt":"2007-12-04T17:19:37","slug":"backuppc-fun-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timelordz.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/backuppc-fun-project\/","title":{"rendered":"BackupPC &#8211; Fun Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I stayed after work a bit and got <a href=\"http:\/\/backuppc.sourceforge.net\/\" title=\"BackupPC\">BackupPC<\/a> installed and configured on my server at work.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a <a href=\"http:\/\/timelordz.com\/wiki\/index.php\/BackupPC_Installation_Notes\" title=\"Wiki article\">wiki article<\/a> describing the install process and a few issues I ran into which might be helpful should you care to try this software out.<\/p>\n<p>BackupPC is really fantastic. It allows cross platform backups to a central point, pools redundant files to save space, has various compression and transfer method options. If a few clicks you can restore files back to the client, or download them directly.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is that it requires host name resolution of the clients. Since I will be backing up clients at home over the internet I am going to next explore setting up a VPN using OpenVPN so the servers can see these clients directly. You could also just use something like dyndns.com to assign a domain name to you dynamic home ip, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Highly recomend this as an automated backup solution for personal or business use.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I stayed after work a bit and got BackupPC installed and configured on my server at work.
