{"id":467,"date":"2010-02-20T19:36:13","date_gmt":"2010-02-20T23:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.timelordz.com\/blog\/?p=467"},"modified":"2010-03-03T19:51:31","modified_gmt":"2010-03-03T23:51:31","slug":"simple-ssh-pass-phrase-manager-for-kde4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timelordz.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/simple-ssh-pass-phrase-manager-for-kde4\/","title":{"rendered":"Simple SSH Pass Phrase Manager for KDE4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve finally gotten around to using ssh pass phrases on the ssh keys I uses to authenticate with, and recently was using a nifty applet on Gnome that managed the pass phrase for you when you log into your Gnome session.<\/p>\n<p>Since I mainly use KDE, I found a very simple little app mentioned on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pontohonk.de\/kde\/ssh.html\" target=\"_blank\">this blog<\/a> that does the same thing for KDE4, ksshaskpass which you can get <a title=\"ksshaskpass\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kde-apps.org\/content\/show.php\/Ksshaskpass?content=50971\" target=\"_blank\">from here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Compiling and installing is extremely easy, it is a very light app and uses cmake for the build, and builds in seconds.<\/p>\n<p>(Note however that\u00a0 you need to have cmake installed, and if using Ubuntu you also install build-essential and kdelibs5-dev if using KDE.)<\/p>\n<p>Also, please see the readme describing the script to make in your ~\/.kde4\/Autostart directory setting your SSH_ASKPATH variable to point to the ksshaskpath binary.<\/p>\n<p>After that you are good to go &#8211; when you first use your key a GUI window prompts you once for the password, which gets associated with your Kwallet for the remainder of your session.<\/p>\n<p>Very nice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve finally gotten around to using ssh pass phrases on the ssh keys I uses to authenticate with, and recently was using a nifty applet on Gnome that managed the pass phrase for you when you log into your Gnome session.
